.where am I going.

My mother somehow knows the Publisher for Umbrella Publishing, who publishes the high end magazines back in Orange County (my home town), and has told him about my photography. He wants samples of my work this evening and he will be in Denver in two weeks, so I suppose if he likes my work, perhaps a meeting with him.

Quite frankly, I do not feel like my work is anywhere near the calliber of phtoography that Umbrella Publishing would be looking for. Yet. Getting there....but there's equipment that is needed and things that need to be accomplished first before I can confidentally say "My work belongs in a magazine."

This weekend I am getting the sensor cleaned in my 20D. $60 to clean a damn little piece of glass, but seeing as I've had it for 3 years and never done it, I'm assuming its nessesary.
My high quality images are lacking that crystal clear clarity that they should have, and I have a sneaking suspicion its the 3 years of collected microscopic dust particles that have collected on my camera sensor. We'll see how that goes / what that changes.
My next big purchase will be an external flash. I need one in a bad way. The Canon 580EX is on my list of things to buy. I just now need $500 to drop out of the damn sky.

Denver

Denver summers amaze me. When the weather changes, and everything begins to bloom and turn green, its really a sight to see. The skies are always interesting colors and hues and for once I was able to capture that with my camera. This first shot is the view from my front porch, and the second shot is the view from the lake at City Park, looking towards downtown. It's a beautiful places, thats for sure. It's no california with beaches and palm trees, but a lovely place none the less.

Whitney

I had a photoshoot with model Whitney last night. It was a cold grueling shoot. I worked all day from 8-5, then went straight to the studio for makeup, and then drove to the location around 6:30 and shot for about an hour and a half. It must've been about 30 degrees outside. My hands went numb and blue (go figure I didn't remember gloves) *sigh*

However, despite the cold, Whitney was an amazing model who gave me exactly what I was looking for. She was tall, lean, intense, and incredibly beautiful. She had the high fashion look that I was aiming for and don't often achieve.

I've only gotten around to processing two of the photos since I got home so late and passed out shortly thereafter, but here is a sample of what is to come. I'd say the second photo is probably my favorite of all of my portfolio shots. The moment I took it I knew I had hit the jackpot the moment that shutter snapped.

I see myself inproving at a rapid rate. I hope that I can keep up this momentum and by the end of this year - quit my day job.

Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Special thanks for the help on these images to: Sinbad Kazakian
I learned something new today. And something that will give my photos the look I've been striving for, for what seems like forever. I still have some playing to do but I got the general idea.

First Studio Shoot

Well I finished up my first studio shoot. It didn't go quite as well as I had planned but we did get a few good shots. The model we shot seemed very stiff much of the time which had an adverse affect on the photos. It's nice shooting with lighting though. It really does change the entire look/ feel of a photo.

We had a lot of fun... the shoot was about 3 hours long after my makeup artist kept changing looks etc. We played around with a few different things but I think next time I'm in studio I'll play around a little bit more. At least my virginity is broken and I can be more comfortable about it the next time! ha

Taking Flight

[New Photo - New Logo]

It seems that these days things are taking off in my world. I knew that my career as a photographer would be a slow buildup and eventually pick up speed and it seems that I'm finally getting to that point. I'm now trying to juggle having a real life, a full-time job, and my photography. Unfortunately, most of my time as a photographer is NOT spent in front of the camera, but behind a computer. The process of photo finishing is a long one, depending on the model and style that I'm going for in the post process ... but its very time consuming. Trying to fit time in for the gym, work, friends, birthdays, and of course, my Colorado Summer is exhausting already, and it's just begun.

However, I'm finally starting to make a bit of money with this photography gig so that's promising. I have no doubt that at this point, I will just get better and better, and as I'm able to purchase more equipment (mainly lighting!!!!) my photos will change drastically. Most of the photography that I've done up to this point has been with my 20D, my stock lens, and natural lighting and/or a desk lamp!

The possibilities are virtually endless.

This weekend I am shooting an adorable model Katie on Sunday at a studio. My first studio shoot. I'm very excited... the studio to me is like a new playground that I have yet to explore. I may love it, I may hate it...but either way I'm going to enjoy this experience !!!!

Everything I'm going through right now is a process - an evolution - into the photographer that I am hoping to become. If you believe in something enough it will happen right? Or so I keep telling myself. Sometimes I get lazy and unfocused, but right now I feel like I am on the ball and really truly making things happen FINALLY. I have some amazing shoots coming up, two costume / clothing designers on board, and amazing makeup artist / model / muse.....and another photographer that I'm networking with and learning from and vice versa.

It's exciting and nerve racking having no clue where my photography will end up. Should be an interesting journey that's for sure.
xoxo

Las Vegas Strip

The entire trip to Vegas was worth this amazing In & Out burger.

More from Christina's Shoot

With this series I chose on purpose to give them some texture and age. I think my next set will be a bit different but I like to change it up every now and then. I'm diggin the black and white one. Christina had amazing eyes!

Time to Focus.

I've started an Idea book. In this idea book I will paste photos that inspire me, as well as write down concepts and other little nick nacks that I need in order to get shoots put together. I want to start doing some very creative shoots, which require props, the right models, and of course, creativity. Which, I do possess, but often times, requires some real sit down thought and I need to write everything down otherwise I will forget. So... we'll see what happens. People are pushing me for some creative ideas, and I need to start making a list of the ones I do come up with.

Unfortunatly, these ideas come along with money. So.. I am also making a "photoshoot jar" where I will throw the money I make from my photoshoots, which, with some discipline to not spend it, will go right back into other photoshoots and/or equipment. Time to knuckle down and start putting into this what needs to go into it.

I won't go anywhere otherwise I'm afraid.
I feel focused. And that feels good.

Chris - Set One

I had a shoot yesterday with a delightful woman that I know from this blogger in fact. We had some trouble finding the original location (well...it had been torn down lol) so we drove around until we found something else and truthfully... I'm much happier with what we found!! We had a fun nude shoot that produced some beautiful artistic photos, which was my main goal, so I'll say we were successful.

Since I do not know if my client wants her nudes on display, I will stick with these for now. I will have more in the next days to come. ENJOI!

I also took a few shots of the location while we were there. I really absolutely LOVE abandoned locations! They have a tale and life of their own.

chew on this

I think that as I grow as a photographer - and learn with each and every shoot that I do - that I'm realizing that my original aspirations to go into fashion photography are probably a little bit high. I don't question my creativity for the most part, but I don't know that I have a knack for all that is fake.

I like to capture peoples natural movements. The way they move, the way they smile, the way they would normally stand. Or is it that I just have more learning to go as far as posing goes? When I visualize my photos before I take them, I don't ever visualize crazy contorted poses, etc. But when I look in magazines, or other photographers, their poses inspire me and excite me. But when I'm shooting I forget all about them and find myself focusing on what is completely natural for my subject.

Strange. I don't really knwo what to make of it yet. I s'pose I will just keep shooting and I'll get it figured out eventually. It's a process I've realized - learning your talents and where they lie. Just about anyone can take a decent photo with a decent camera, so to become successful you have to be capturing something that others cannot right?

People seem to enjoy my photos for the most part, so I'm assuming I'm doing something correctly.

hello and welcome

I had some watchers around the Blogger world that were hoping that I would return, and I have. This is my playground that wil be 100% related to photography and my journey through teaching myself how to become the business woman /photographer that I hope to someday become. I have a ways to go, but one thing I do know - I have an eye for this. Everything else will take some work but I will get there eventually, I'm sure !
